ABOUT ME!

Kristan Layne is an African American Illustrator with a BFA in illustration, who was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. She found a love for creating illustrations that can be used to inspire those like her. One of her favorite pastimes is to design characters and stories for herself. She has always loved the small details in the outfits and environments she observed throughout the world around her. Though, she drew inspiration from her surroundings, she also drew inspiration from her love for fantasy, mythology, video games, comics, and animated media alike. Her main goal is to capture important narratives and create standalone pieces in an elegant and soft manner.

Black women oftentimes can be seen as everything but soft and feminine to others, so she does her best to capture them in the most feminine way. She works hard to incorporate small aspects of herself as a Black woman and her culture into many of her illustrations. She wishes to become a renown concept artist/ illustrator within the field of illustration and work on the games that she herself grew up with. The video games that she played when she was younger helped shape her art style into what it is today and she wants to be a part of that for others.
